Christianity Stands or Falls on an Empty Tomb
Today we celebrate an empty grave.
That might sound simple… and almost too simple.
But the reality is, it’s the dividing line of human history.
Every other “god” that has ever been worshipped, every leader who claimed authority, every prophet who gathered followers… when they died, they stayed dead. Their graves are still full. You can visit them. You can stand over them. You can remember what they said.
But not Jesus.
His tomb is empty.
This is not just a detail of the story. It is the story.
Because if Jesus is still in the grave, then He is just another voice among many. Another teacher. Another man who made bold claims.
But if the grave is empty… then everything He said is true.
It means sin was not too strong.
It means death did not have the final word.
It means the cross was not a defeat, but a victory.
Jesus didn’t just die for us.
He rose for us.
He stepped into our sin, carried our shame, bore the weight of our rebellion, and then walked out of the grave, leaving it all behind. Not for Himself, but for us.
This is why Easter matters.
Because we are not just celebrating something that happened to Jesus.
We are celebrating what He accomplished on our behalf.
The same power that raised Him from the dead is the power that meets us in our sin.
The same victory over the grave is the hope we now hold.
Your sin does not get the final say.
Your shame does not define you.
Death is not the end of your story.
Because the grave is empty.
And because it’s empty, there is life.
Real life. Forgiven life. Restored life. Eternal life.
Today, we don’t just remember the resurrection.
We live in it.
